Crossing mountains and seas, Felipe Franco Munhoz, editor-in-chief of the renowned Brazilian culture magazine Revista Cult, enters the Daliang Mountains for a 12-day immersive journey.

Traveling across Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, he visits the Yi embroidery cooperative in Jiagu Village, Yuexi, where an ancient craft is helping local people earn more. In the Luoji Mountains, natural scenery and intangible cultural heritage complement each other. Strolling through Jianchang Ancient Town and Dashiban Village in Xichang, he encounters ancient crafts such as the Yi fire painting and Yi sancai (tri-colored pottery) in dialogue with modern aesthetics. At a workshop in Huili, he kneads clay, observes red copper being forged, and feels the warmth of a millennia-old craft. By the shores of Lugu Lake, amid lake and mountain vistas, Mosuo songs and dances, fire-grass weaving, and other folk traditions remain vividly alive.

Deep in the mountains, the roots of ethnic culture are passed down from generation to generation while actively engaging with the currents of the times. This transnational cultural exchange spanning mountains and seas shares the stories of ethnic minorities long hidden deep in the mountains of southwest China and brings Liangshan’s vibrant diversity across the ocean into the international spotlight.
